Flames sign G Wolf to seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension

The Calgary Flames have signed goaltender Dustin Wolf to a seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension. 

Wolf is coming off a sensational first full season in the NHL, in which he posted a 29-16-8 record with a .910 save percentage and a 2.64 goals-against average. The 24-year-old netminder was named a Calder Trophy finalist, finishing second in voting behind Montreal Canadiens defenceman Lane Hutson.

The deal carries an average annual value of $7.5 million for Wolf, who was set to be arbitration eligible as a restricted free agent next summer. He will carry a cap hit of $850,000 this season in the last of a two-year deal this season. 

Flames general manager Craig Conroy added later Tuesday that Wolf has a 10-team no-trade list in the unrestricted free agent years covered in his extension.

Selected in the seventh round of the 2019 draft, Wolf has been ascending to his status and split the 2023-24 campaign between the NHL and AHL. He went 7-7-1 with the Flames that season with a .893 save percentage and a 3.16 GAA. In 36 games with the Calgary Wranglers, he had a 20-12-3 record with a .922 save percentage and a 2.45 GAA.

Wolf was named AHL MVP for the 2022-23 campaign after posting a 42-10-2 record with a .932 save percentage and a 2.09 GAA. He repeated as AHL goaltender of the year in 2023 after taking the title in his first season in the league as well. 


Flames stay focused on future

Wolf becomes the eighth member of the Flames  signed through at least the 2028-29 season.

He joins forwards Jonathan HuberdeauNazem KadriMatt Coronato, Martin Pospisil and Yegor Sharangovich, as well as defencemen Mackenzie Weegar and Kevin Bahl

The Flames also signed restricted free agent forward Connor Zary to a three-year, $11.33 million. 

Wolf is set to be the team's second-highest paid player next season behind Huberdeau ($10.5 million) and just ahead of Kadri ($7 million).
